It's been a hot minute.

In our last post, it was two Mondays ago. It was 35° and snowing heavily. (Everything that day and the next got canceled.) The snow piles were temporarily epic.

I say "temporarily" because fairly soon thereafter, the weather shifted into "melting" mode. It was like 65° and sunny over the weekend, and today is going to be even warmer.
I went out to look at the river, on that 65° day. The ice was still there, but was definitely starting to melt. Ironically, it was then that I knew definitively that I could have walked over it, even a week earlier. The ice sheets on the boat ramp, the holes in the ice, all showed that it was like 15 cm. thick. It was, in fact, tempting to try to walk across it... but it was probably rotten AF.

ETA, Tuesday: it was 80 ucking degrees earlier. What is this freaky unnatural shit.

CoViD Levels:
Huh. We actually have up-to-date information. (As of Monday.) And CoViD levels (at least for the North System) are still at ... (drumroll, please)...about 300 Bobcat-Robots.

(Levels for the Boston SOUTH system are up, to around 600 Bobcat-Robots. Which is still way below last year's levels.)

Then the temperature plummeted back to levels that I would have described even in the 1990s as quite cold. We got snow flurries on the afternoon of Christmas, and an actually significant amount of snow on...must have been St. John's Eve? Anyway, it was so cold that Mallard Wassail got moved indoors.
And then on Monday 12/29 (St Thomas' Day), it bucketed rain.
And now it's cold again.

(Sorry I haven't been updating these. In my defense, (a) my routine got thrown out of whack, but more importantly (b) CoViD levels stayed REALLY LOW all summer. Now they're STILL really low, but it's cold season, so we're back in the game of "Is it CoViD, or just a cold, such as we would have laughed off before 2020?")

ETA: On the same search: Look... This obituary is presumably just giving the names of children's spouses, but the way they phrased it KINDA makes it look like half this person's kids are trans., and being deadnamed for the benefit of people who haven't seen them in a while.

Today is--somehow--my tenth anniversary* as a changeringer.

* Well, with a couple of caveats. This excludes, obviously, trying to learn change ringing back when I was 14. And I'm using July 1 as a convenient approximation, in much the same way as sorcyress uses their birthday. I know had already been to a practice or two at Advent before I went to Old North the first time, which I think was on July 4; so the first time with a rope in my hands may have been July 1, or it may have been a Wednesday or two before then. The earliest reference I can find to ringing is a blog post from July 16 [Locked]--but I'd clearly been ringing for some time at that point.
...I should probably check the ~~Log~~ Guest book at CotA, huh.
