Realm: Philosophizing - Subrealm: Spring

Diffugere niues, redeunt iam gramina campis
arboribusque comae
mutat terra vices, et decrescentia ripas
flumina praetereunt...

Well, the snows have dispersed, all right, and the grass started growing again while I wasn´t looking, though foliage won´t have returned til the trees til, oh, about when we get back from Istanbul. And what with snowmelt and patches of rain, the Rhein is certainly NOT descrescens: in fact, the lake´s gone up by a foot or so. And if the Graces went dancing in the buff, they´d still get goose pimples. But it´s now undeniably Spring: there´s been actual sunshine, you don´t need a coat ALL the time, and the views of the mountains have been spectacular. Earth´s changes, indeed. Makes me automatically want to sing Easter hymns, which is annoying, since it´s WAY too early.

On that note...
Subrealm: Things that are annoying

1) My super-ego. There really ought to be a website: www.ihatemysuperego.com. You know how in J.K. Rowling, there´s a sort of personified version of Harry´s super-ego that sounds like Hermione? that tells him to do his homework, or not to do various incredibly stupid things (far too frequent)? Yeah. In this case, I´m hearing "No, you don´t get to sit around and eat chocolate while reading 2nd rate novels: it´s lent, and you have to do the laundry, and then go get something useful done." Don´t you hate that?

2) Increasing tendency to see everything in my life in terms of Harry Potter references. likewise

3) Increasing tendency to see Harry Potter in terms of its potential for use in, err, romantic fanfic. My tandem partner was profoundly shocked yesterday to hear that there WAS such a thing. I decided not to explain the concept of Slash. And I´m blaming M&C for it ALL.

4) The way that, if you fast from something, you suddenly notice it everywhere...

5) The fact that I´ve basically run out of sources in Konstanz. Especially annoying since I found vugger all about the linen trade, and the records of the Kornmeister, who supervised grain imports, survive only from famine years! Als in that I now have to spend ages paging through the Bestände des Generallandesarchivs Karlsruhe, which has most of the rest of the documents of (potential) use to yours truly.

6) Archivists who don´t answer emails.

Hm. I´m sure there was something else. Aside from the fact that it´s April (where did the year go??)... which brings us back to Subrealm no. 1. Oh well, I should go email people in Freiburg, and then finish reading this article. Yeah, see above.
