The Grace's Ordination Register page

God and the Bishop willing, Grace is going to be ordained Deacon in June. So to coordinate anyone giving her gifts OTHER than CM Almy gift certificates, I've set up this page.

(Yes, anyone with any actual computer skills would have set up a REAL web page, instead of just making it an entry in their weblog. Cut me some slack.)

How it works: If you're (planning on) giving her something, hit "post a new comment" at the bottom of this page. If you don't have an lj, you SHOULD be given the option of hitting "post anonymously." If you do that, though, please give your name in your comment; in either case, please indicate what you're buying her.
(Example: "I'm buying her a Red Sox-logo chasuble. --Margaret Pritchard")

[Obviously, my sister in law, possessing a good sense of taste and of what Grace would ACTUALLY want (as opposed to finding amusing), would never buy Grace something like this. Please exercise similar discretion.]

You can also hit "View comments", which will let you see what OTHER people are planning on giving Grace. Since, you know, the whole point of this is to avoid having her wind up with three copies of Lesser Feasts and Fasts, or whatever.

UPDATE:
* Dad got her a Commentary on the Hymnal and Ministry to the Sick
* St. John's No. Haven is getting her a communion kit.
* The lovely[livejournal.com profile] sigerson made her a green preacher's stole.
* Someone else whom I can't recall is getting her a complete set of white vestments.
* Her godmother made her a red stole.

Wishlist:
Grace would also like
* some long-sleeved clergy shirts (she already has short-sleeved ones and collars). Though I think she's going to order those herself, to get the right size and colors; so Almy gift certificates might be a better bet.
* She hasn't specifically requested these, but copies of Lesser Feasts & Fasts and the BOS might come in handy.

Some suggestions

Hi, this is Vicki talking

For those of you who have no (good) ideas --

The newest really good scripture commentary is "The New Interpreters Bible." The whole set is, I think 24 volumes, and they're about $40 a volume. Good for individual and group gifts.

Vestments (of course) but avoid deacon's stoles as they're only temporarily useful. Priests' stoles which are either straight or angled at the back can be adapted for the six months they're needed.

Strangely, high-end office-type furnishings. Someone once gave me a really nice clock for my office and I still use it.

A new prayer book/hymnal combination, if hers isn't relatively new. It's nice to have "The Rev." on the front, plus one for windy rainy graveside use and one for inside. :-)

More if I think of anything.

Haven't made up my own mind, yet, either.

Her's IS relatively new (relatively). She could probably use LF&F and BOS, though.

... anyway, I take it this whole page is totally open to the scrutiny of Her Soon-To-Be Reverence herself? Or has she been made to swear on a copy of the Constitution and Canons that she will not look at it?

other ideas

Let's see how this works. I would recommend Michno's "A Priest's Handbook" at some point although it might be a bit presumptious until her priestly ordination actually scheduled. Unless Grace and Josh suddenly feel called to relocate to Hawaii I would suggest a heavy black wool cloak (through Almy or Wippell's) as a good group gift.
