Feb. 19th, 2020 09:21 amUpdate on the last: Well, my plan of getting like ten hours of sleep ran aground on the mudflat of I Don't Really Do Naps, and then was wrecked on the Too Much Chocolate Reef.
On the other hand, whether because of the chocolate, or of having spent like ten hours being at least horizontal, I'm more or less functional this morning. Fingers crossed.
Unfortunately, this morning is apparently also "Let's have the construction guys rip up Schreiber's chunk of the building" day. I think I'm going to listen to unblack metal until they stop.

Feb. 18th, 2020 05:40 pmI haz a sic.
I mean, nothing like, life-threatening. I have a head cold. But I was felling sufficiently tired and ill and like I might be running a fever* by 2:30 that I decided to call out sick for the rest of the day and went home to try to take a nap.
And I decided that, if I was too sick to work, I also probably shouldn't go to PT, or go out to the pub to listen to a talk on heresies. So there went my evening plans.
"We weren't expecting that you'd be here for dinner," remarked one of my roommates. "So we're doing roasted cauliflower... and mint... Oh, and cucumbers, right."
"We did skip the eggs and avocados, though. Since we had those... several times this week..."
"...In fact, every day for breakfast for three days..."
At least the soup should be good.
* Answer: No, at least according to my digital thermometer.

Feb. 26th, 2018 03:18 pm"Oh, ok," said my Mom yesterday, when I phoned her and recounted how I'd spent the previous weekend dealing with a sick ten-year-old. "So it's been a week: way to late for you to come down with the 'flu now."
I think she spoke too soon...
(At any rate, I'm dizzy and have a rotten headache and probably a fever, though since the first thing I did when the headache came on was to take two aspirin it's hard to be certain on that. I had to leave work early, because my brain wasn't really quite functional enough, and I wanted to avoid infecting my coworkers.)

Apr. 4th, 2016 05:11 pmDarnit, I think *I* have the Lurgi now.
(I suppose it was inevitable, but I'd been hoping my immune system would be proof against it. Nope.)
...Guess I should abandon plans to go running, go home, and put myself to bed. Somebody bug me to post about the weekend...tomorrow, say.
Guess I should also be prepared to call in sick tomorrow. sigh.
Current weather: Snowing hard. Wtf, April?
(OK, yes, I know the answer to that one. It's still kinda shocking.)

May. 7th, 2014 12:27 pmBad News: The little part that attaches the cable to my laptop self-destructed last week. While I was still in the last throes of grading.
Good News: My computer-part guy didn't have a replacement, but he WAS willing to let me use his spare HP power cord.
For the entire weekend, as it turned out.
So mad props to Pierre's of the Old Port!
More Good News: I talked the guys at H.R. Distributers, who'd sold me the part in the first place, into getting the company to send me/them a replacement cord. Free.
So big kudos to them. (And actually, also to Pierre again, since it was he who pointed out that Manhattan would supposedly do that.)
Bad news: I didn't get the archivist job at York.
Good news: Uh...I guess moving transatlantic would've made life inconvenient?* And...I guess it's good to know sooner rather than later, so I don't have to keep holding that weekend free...
No screw it, this is pretty much ALL bad news. (If not unexpected.) Espec. because
More Bad News: This means I have to go back to square one on job applicating. And you all KNOW how much I love that!
For today, though, I should get back to copy-editing.**
Additional Bad news: I have what I initially thought was a really bad allergy flareup, but is now looking increasingly like the 'flu. Needless to say, this does not improve my mood OR my productivity. (It is an event that violates the Chez Geek principle!)
* Though, in fact, only slightly more so than moving to DC, which is also looking faintly possible. Also, guess which place's weather/culture is going to get on my nerves faster?
** I believe I told you how the guy in Esslingen dumped several projects in my lap just before Finals week. I got those done.
He gave me more.
