My computer apparently died last week: it would turn on and apparently boot up, but the screen would just go grey. I say "appparently" because when I took it in to the computer people yesterday, Murphy´s Law kicked in and it booted up normally. So they´re now having a look at it. Hopefully it will decide to work, so that I can get back to archival research (instead of reading secondary material, even if some of it´s 120 years old and written in Fraktur, and so practically counts as a historical artefact in itself!)
This partly explains why I haven´t been posting much. Other reasons involve a) Harry Potter und der Gefangene von Askaban, b) actually getting work done (the idea!), c) a Uni-Chor "Rehearsal Weekend" (I have never spent so much of a three-day period doing warmup exercises, at least not since choir camp when I was 12...probably not even then) d) Not much else happening. It´s rained a lot, I´ve read through the first Kinderrechnungsbuch (inventories of the possessions of orphans, basically). Yesterday we had a concert by a visiting Romanian choir that Adam would have enjoyed (lots of Byzantine chant, as well as Romanian folksongs and >Christmas carols, and various random stuff). Oh, and we went Christmas shopping, but since those of you who would care are the ones we bought stuff for, that´s probably not worth posting about.

Update, 9 Dec: The people at the computer center don´t know what´s wrong with it, but say it´ll probably be expensive to fix. And the screen´s turning on every third try, when it feels like it. So I am now MOSTLY computerless. This sucks.
