Things that I learned on New Year's Day:

It is unwise to consume most of a bottle of wine at one sitting.
This goes doubly if:
it is not so much a sitting as a "wandering around Westminster trying to get to the fireworks in Parliament square and then getting squished by crowds once you get there"
you also have a dodgy bottle of Stella
you are staying in your sister-in-law's flat, and her water has just been turned off...
The London Tube strike did NOT, in fact, end at noon on the 1st.
There are no buses directly from Highbury and Islington to Victoria.
The 38, on the other hand, goes directly from the bus stop near Margaret's flat to Victoria. Ah, the irony.
Trying to put all your Christmas presents in your luggage will ultimately lead to severe arm ache.
The Victoria coach station is neither in the train station NOR in front of where you actually buy your ticket.
I had (sensibly) recorded all the information necessary to make an online bank transfer to pay the rent in my address book.
An address book left in a Cambridge telephone box will NOT be there an hour later.
My friends in Cambridge (Julie and Nick) are wonderful people.

Happy New Year, all!
