Realm: Parenthood - Subrealm: Baby update
Sep. 26th, 2008 03:34 pmRight. Sorry I haven't posted in a while--I've been reading too much Cherryh. To the point where, if I bike up Union Street, I wonder where Pell Street and Alliance Avenue may be, and whether there's a Sol Street. But I digress.
I've also been preoccupied with the baby since, while we've found a new daycare lady (albeit one a truly hairraising bikeride away), I'm still single-parenting most mornings. Meantime, Peter has been going through some important developmental stages. We started him on solid food some time ago (Ben and Hop's wedding, in fact), but it was chiefly last week that he suddenly turned into the Ravenous Eating Machine, and started trying to eat his body weight every other day. Even with the best will in the world, this has made meal times somewhat...time consuming.* Especially since THIS week he decided he wasn't as in to eating. (He's certainly still eating--just not trying to absorb about twice what you'd think he could hold at every sitting). Instead, he's spent his time working out crawling. Crawling FORWARD, even, which was the really big hurdle. As well as starting to learn how to pull himself up on chairs. Hasn't learned how to sit down again, though, which means the only way down is to topple over and Go Thump. On his head. Not fun for anyone.
This also means the absolute end of Being Able To Put Him Down Somewhere And Have Him Stay There.**
He seems to want to go out the back door. In his playpen, he'll but his head against the mesh sides; put him down, and he makes a beeline for the kitchen. Occasional stopping to try to play with the computer cords. sigh.
Oh, and he also came down with a cold this week. And was horribly stuffed up two nights ago, so couldn't suck on his pacifier and breathe at the same time...yeah, we didn't get much sleep.
This is not helping with the stress, bbs.

He has just crawled partway onto the computer case at my feet and gotten stuck. I am not going to extricate him just yet. He is not screaming, he is not in danger (well, much) of toppling over and Going Thump, he is not playing with electrical wires. This is about as much as one can expect.
* We're also trying to teach him baby sign language. So far, haven't made much headway, but he does know how to communicate FOOD! in a basic way--the little baby bird with its mouth gaping open imitation.
** Except his crib and playpen, d.h. And even in his crib, he can pull himself to his feet on the side, later too Fall Over And Go Thump.
