Dec. 5th, 2017 08:41 pmToday featured near non-stop computer problems* and then I had to get on I-95 and go to the mall. In the rain.
The trip to the mall was actually better.
* In retrospect, it was just plain farcical. My computer turned on, took half an hour to install updates; and then when it finally consented to turn on, I found out that my login had finally gotten switched over on our contract/project-management system, but that this had somehow left me with only about half the functionality I'd had as a temp.: I tried restarting to fix this, whereupon the entire COMPUTER crashed and went into perpetual-restart mode.
Trip to IT #1.
Once they finally got the thing working, I got on email...and promptly opened the contract that had been sent to me in a bogus email that was suspected of being a virus.
Trip to IT #2. (It WAS a real contract--just between two companies who weren't us. The IT guys ran about three different scans, and found zero viruses: I think it was actually some really elaborate phishing scheme.)
Then I tried to open shared desktop so that our software admin--who, confusingly, is one of MY bosses, because IT doesn't deal with the project management system--could try to figure out why THAT wasn't working...and my computer crashed again.
Trip to IT #3. (Seriously, the IT folks are great.)
So what with all of that, it was NOT a real productive day. And now I have a loaner laptop that works inexplicably slowly, and STILL don't have access to have the functions I need to do my actual job.
I am reduced to hoping that all this fixes itself by magic overnight.
