Several people over the past week have asked whether I’d made Thanksgiving plans.
This was an entirely reasonable question, since those plans got changed about, ooo, four times.

Plan A was to go up and spend Thanksgiving with my brother. I did that two years ago, and it was awesome. I would also have done it one year ago, but that was derailed by the whole Family TG Plus Funeral caper. This year, though… I just didn’t want to spend all that time in a car,* AND he’s moved in with his girlfriend, who gives me bad vibes.** So I wanted to avoid that, and told him I was looking into other plans, even though I hadn’t actually MADE other plans.

Plan B was “Do Thanksgiving with BellsFriends.”*** That was looking good until they had to cancel their usual cast-of-whoever-shows-up shindig because of family responsibilities.
Plan C was “Do Thanksgiving with different BellsFriends.” This dropped out of the blue right after Plan B fell through, which was awesome. Then it fell through in its turn when we realized that no one else but me plus potential hosts was interested, which was less awesome.

I briefly considered plans D1, D2, D3 and D4, which were all various bad or unworkable ideas (Skip TG; spend TG at a soup kitchen; Fly to Michigan and do TG with my Grandmother; etc.)

At this point, I got a text from my brother. “Hey man. Hope you’re had a couple weeks. Just wanted to check back about Thanksgiving. Do you have a definite plan yet one way or the other?”

As I said, I thought I’d taken plan A off the table. Apparently not. It’s not ideal, but it beat the various Plan Ds, so I said yes, and then asked if he could pick me up from the nearest train station.

So at least I don’t have to drive.

* Driving long distances isn’t something I enjoy to begin with. Factor in spending all that time reflecting on how much carbon dioxide I’m producing, and it tips over into Do Not Want.

** If this is frustratingly vague to you, well, you’re not alone: it’s also frustratingly vague to me. Being a generally logically-minded person who likes evidence, the fact that I’m also Intuitive (vs. sensate) makes the other residents of my brain feel like they have a genius recluse roommate who periodically leaves urgent but cryptic notes on the kitchen counter.

*** Thanks to Sor for this coinage.
