Do I remember correctly that you dislike the not uncommon romance trope of people who obviously are meant to be together holding off on telling each other their feelings because of some idea that the other person deserved better?
You remember correctly. As with most conventions of miscommunication in romance narratives (and elsewhere), it has to be done really well for me not to want to knock everyone's heads together, and I like best when it's just not in play at all.
