Yesterday, we went to Ikea for the first time. Yup, we've been assimilated.
It wasn't REALLY the full Ikea experience, of course. We found what we were looking online, and then went into the store and located it, rather than going on the whole tour. We didn't buy any fish, rye, or lingonberry products; nor did we eat meatballs at any point. And there were no allen wrenches involved.
But our new coatrack IS a true Ikea product, nonetheless. It has a name (Portis); I put it together after unpacking it from an improbably small box; and none of the arms are the same length or design. Ah, Swedish modernism.

Date: 2007-10-23 12:36 pm (UTC)Portis isn't one of the best names as it's not like "Hartford" or "cuddly" or anything. Portis could be like an unofficial diminutive thingy for gate (port), or of course the colloquial name for the Portuguese Water Dog. Ok, so I have no idea what the dog would be in English... Is it Portis with an umlaut Pörtis? In this case I may have to roll around laughing as it doesn't mean anything but is very silly. I love Ikea!
