choco_frosh: Bede, from a MS in Benediktbeuern or someplace (baeda)

A briefer-than-it-deserves post, since I have to do yet another revision of the Paper That Ate My Life, and my motivation seems to have switched places with a desire to reread novels (Cherryh, and HP3 [this time, in Spanish for variety!]) But anyway:

On Thursday we drove a few miles north to have Thanksgiving with my Aunt. (Yes, the same one from last summer. I guess she's more-or-less forgiven me...)
Er, when I say "my Aunt", I mean "eighteen other people, all more-or-less family," though trying to explain everybody's relationships gets kinda complicated. For example: grandparents of my step-cousins. Yeah.
Nothing terribly special, but generally nice.

Friday: we went to Boston, to see various friends. A couple of whom we ultimately failed to see. We were especially sorry not to see [livejournal.com profile] sovay, but sadly, both her relatives and Grace's changed their TG plans...

I would also like to propose a new version of an old meme:

(You) (Insane and incomprehensible Boston street system) (Delicious cake)

In this case, of course, replace "Delicious Cake" with "[livejournal.com profile] ppaladin, and his enormous collection of board games". Anyway, we got there in the end; and also he put us up for the night. And also Invisible Friend [livejournal.com profile] sexybadpnomama is now IRL friend! And we got to see [livejournal.com profile] ppaladin and [livejournal.com profile] silavrwyrm for the first time in ages! Hopefully we will see them again soon.

And we played Cities and Knights, and went out for Portuguese food, and then played Alhambra and Bonanza, and drank lots of Lambic, and a good time was had by all, even though we kinda threw [livejournal.com profile] sexybadpnomama in at the deep end.

Saturday: We got too little sleep. We cooked [livejournal.com profile] ppaladin tasty pancakes. We bought Cities&Knights. We had lunch with Grace's uncle and family. We got lost, but eventually found, one of G's invisible friends. We got home very late. We are now tired, but generally happy.

Things I can check off the "To Do" list:
Absinthe; using cell phone as alarm clock after telling someone to call me back.

Things I am thankful for:

* Having relatives and friends with whom to eat Thanksgiving, and food enough to eat.

* The fact that my grandparents are compos, and that my other relatives are, at least, neither @-holes nor feuding with me or one another.

* Wonderful friends.

* [livejournal.com profile] ppaladin's wonderful generosity, especially at 1:00 AM, when my cell phone woke Peter...

* Settlers.

* Leftover Portuguese food.

* A son who's NORMALLY very well-behaved.

* That Thanksgiving is over, and that it's now advent.

Oh don't worry, I didn't feel too overwhelmed by being thrown in at the deep end! As I mentioned in my own all-too-brief post, I will just have to play Settlers again soon. And if you come down for tea in January, then I'm sure I'll see you there then!

I think you were doing the best in that game of settlers, and if you had played a bit before, you probably would have won. Your early to mid game was good, then you just didn't know how to finish yet.
