For those of you who have been following the political oddness in CT: I just went out and voted for Lamont. It was actually a harder decision than you might think.
Much as I dislike having Joe Lieberman trying to dictate whom I should vote for, I also don’t like MoveOn.org trying to dictate whom I should vote for. And while I’m appalled by Lieberman’s kowtowing to the President and his support of the initial invasion of Iraq, I’m still not convinced that simply pulling out of there is the answer. Iraq’s in chaos, frankly. So we need to make it clear that we’re not just there for the oil (we’re there so it doesn’t turn into another Somalia…to the extent that it isn’t there already), we need to admit we screwed up, we need to admit we’re running things badly, and we need, above all else, to swallow our pride and ask the rest of the UN for help.
And then we need to buckle down to rebuilding counter-insurgency and peace-keeping in Iraq, and accept that this is going to mean American soldiers dying. And hopefully remember those deaths before the next time we think about going to war.

[It's reather stupid that this election is almost entirely about Iraq. There are more important issues. Oh well, I'll wait for everyone to jump on me on this.]

And it has to be said for Lieberman that for all his trying a little too hard to be middle of the road, has generally voted for fairly decent policies on the domestic front.
...But he voted for Bush’s energy bill, and I’m tired of the Democratic party’s continual slide toward the right. And as [livejournal.com profile] mhorai points out so well, it's time to remind the country that dissent can be good, and that sometimes we need new people, even if a politically inexperienced millionaire isn't the ideal alternative candidate.
So: Go Lamont! ...I guess.
