OK, just a word of explanation on the previous post, since Sovay asked, and I realized my reply was turning into a post in itself.

So Bonney called me up to ask, did I want this two-week temp. job doing data-entry?* Under ordinary circumstances, I would have said "YES!" -- data entry isn't exciting, sure, but it's a way into the world of office temping that, hitherto, I haven't been getting.

Unfortunately, next week is USPS training. (And possibly interviews with insurance companies.) I initially told Bonney I was potentially interested, but would need to look at my schedule, and meantime could they give me some more details? Then when the guy called me back this morning, I laid out the situation: that I'd love to oblige him, but I had this post office job lined up, so unless I could expect to get another two or three weeks at something else between THIS job and Christmas, I would have to bow out...
The dude at Bonney was, at least, sympathetic-sounding, but said that yeah, they really couldn't guarantee that. But his general demeanor does give me hope that they might actually call me about anything similar that comes up...next year. Meantime, I am stuck with the USPS.

And meanwhile, I didn't get much sleep the last two nights, due to getting yet another economics paper edited. (Someone was making sympathetic noises about this t'other day. I pointed out that it was my own fault for not putting my nose to the grindstone and getting it done more promptly, and in particular that no one had held a gun to my head and made me go to "David Lynch and pizza" night with a couple members of the Geek Club.
(Being unable to sleep after I actually finished the thing due to previous caffeine consumption would, by contrast, have been a reasonable topic of condolence; but of course that hadn't happened yet at that point.)

And by the usual irony, this is the weekend I have Peter visiting, so I had to do a five-hour drive this afternoon,** and have no guarantee that he won't wake me at dawn tomorrow. (Or wake up sick: he was tired and seemed to be running a fever this evening.)

Ugghhh. Somebody remind me to get some job searching and ... uh ... figuring out what else I need to do. tomorrow. Right now my brain isn't at its best.
sleep.

*Apparently--as is not uncommon--even temps. have to sign a confidentiality agreement, so I know nothing more about the client or the precise nature of the job.

** Which actually went remarkably smoothly, despite snow and sleep deprivation.
