Hokay. There's nothing interesting to apply to this afternoon,* so I'm going to finally get around to posting something!

A week ago, I was still recovering from the Post Office job, and finally getting around to writing my grandmother,*** and trying to get back in the groove of job applications. This was quasi-successful, in that on Wednesday I was headed down to Boston for a job interview. The latter actually went reasonably well, despite some unpreparedness on my part,† and so I am now on their books!
- The bad news is that they're just another employment agency (Randstad): so they may call me about a job tomorrow, or they might call me next year. (They do look like they do a good job matching skills and interests to jobs, though, and all the FT stuff they do apparently pays pretty decently, so...here's hoping.)
- The bizarro news is that Randstad got recommended to me by a former student of my Mom's, whom she contacted to ask on my behalf about jobs and such in Boston. Said student also turns out to know [personal profile] sovay. Small world.

Had the interview, had lunch at Grendel's, faffed about for a bit, regretting the fact that I wasn't going to see anyone while I was in town, headed for the bus station. Once there, I belatedly remembered that I had only announced this trip over FB, and that Sovay might not have seen that... So I checked email, and it was a good thing I did, because she *hadn't*, and in the end we arranged to meet up at Porter Square Books, after she'd gotten actual work done (And thus after I'd got some job applying and caffeine consuming in.) We ended up going out for a bacon-themed dinner with [personal profile] derspatchel, and it was awesome.

Friday, I got together with my Dad and no less than TWO professional counselors to try to hash out our...difficulties. Yes, that's what it took. (See here). And that went ok, but it's gonna take at least one MORE session to work things out, and, well, not everything is going to end up being ideal from my point of view. But at least we're still talking.

And as some of you, Peter was here this weekend. The most memorable part of an all-too-short weekend was going sledding Saturday morning. Peter, it turns out, looks at a slope coated with a sheet of ice, and says "That's going to be awesome!", while his adult relatives cringe. And then they let him go down most of the way, and it turns out he was right, and he's fine... Little daredevil.
He can also kick my arse at skating.

The fact that we were sledding in single-degree (F) weather on Saturday, while Sunday it rained and today felt like April, is an indication of how f'd up the weather is, both this past week and generally. This is why I spent Tuesday evening freezing my tail off (ironically) at an anti-Keystone XL rally.

That's about it.

* This is a slight exaggeration,** but I'm still working up the courage to apply to be Jonathan Zittrain's research assistant, and I'm not too sanguine about that editing job, either.
** OK, how the heck do you even SPELL that?
*** i.e. the one in Michigan. The sane one.
† Job interviews are one thing about which I have a significant mental blind spot. Everyone remind me next time to actually think about what questions they might ask me, OTHER than what my qualifications are.
