Good news/Bad news

Welp, the bad news is that the temporary position at the copy center (the one I was supposed to start two weeks ago) has been canceled. That makes twice in the last week that I've been told, explicitly or implicitly, that I'm too overqualified for them to even consider my application. (This is annoying in itself, but I'm also UNDERqualified for anything else, so I'm sort of in a cleft stick here.)
The (sortof) good news is that they've therefore put me down for a similar position in Charlestown, which would actually pay enough to live on, and would be for two years, instead of six weeks. (This last is something of a mixed blessing, since clearing copier jams for two years is not exactly how I saw my future; but otoh, I suppose that if I get offered something really awesome elsewhere I can always just quit, and tell Employment Agency #3 to go screw themselves.*)
The (sortof) bad news is that this job is a THIRD-party contract, so my paycheck would be bounced through three different agencies before I saw it; but more to the point, I have to go down to Boston for an interview, and then if I'm successful I get to do ANOTHER interview, the following day.
The good news is that
(1) I managed to set interview #1 up for tomorrow, rather than this bloody afternoon, since when I got the phone calls involved, I was in the middle of making hot cross buns** and had agreed to loan my brother the car this evening, and then go out for a pint...all of which, of course, would have been derailed had I had to haul arse down to deepest darkest Woburn this afternoon;
(2) See above re: hot cross buns, beer;
(3) I have secured crash space if the "two f'in interviews" possibility becomes a reality; thus sparing me a round trip to Boston;
(4) Hopefully seeing friends?
...Hm. The mildly bad news*** - or at least Thing To Worry About - is due to the confluence of Good Things, I will likely wake up tomorrow with a mild hangover and then drive m'self to Boston, WITH two days' worth of office attire, and maybe also lunch and my running togs. Which suggests that I need to get all my ducks for tomorrow in a row this afternoon, BEFORE I go to the pub. I should maybe go work on that.
* OK, in actuality I'm going to be a good deal more polite than that, since they've actually treated me fairly decently; but since I will still be quitting in mid-job, I will still, presumably, be putting myself on their $#!7-list.
** WHich reminds me: the other piece of good news/bad news of the day was that in my typical brilliant fashion, I'd left my laptop cord in [coffee shop where I spend too much time and $]; the good news was that the barrista figured out it was mine, and was ready to hand it to me when I walked in to retrieve it this morning. I gave her an actually HOT cross bun in thanks when I came back in for caffeine. She'd never even heard of them before.
*** I mean, there's also other bad news in my life, involving friends' health and my finances and the stupidity of banks, but that can wait.

Date: 2015-03-17 08:47 pm (UTC)And yeah. I'm reminded of an old Dilbert comic, where it emerges that the Boss has outsourced a job to another firm, who subcontracted it out to a third party, who outsourced it to a company in China, who have now hired Dilbert's firm to do it...
