OK, all: anybody know a song, probably beginning "There came a knock on the shepherd's door..." with a chorus something like the following?
Oh for the wind and rain!
We'd scarcely have met but for the twain
And there's not much chance we'll meet again...
Oh, the wind and rain!"

Not that one. The only wind and rain song I know doesn''t have a shepherd and does say dreadful wind and rain on the second repeat. I'm not good enough at searching to exclude that one in order to find yours (most common is the one that starts two sisters).
In my head, I hear the Grateful Dead, but probably it's just Jerry Garcia and David Grisman.

Safe trip.

Oh, the wind and rain!

Outside of Shakespeare, the only song I know with "Oh, the wind and the rain!" in the chorus is a version of "The Two Sisters" sung by Jody Stecher.

That said, the thing you're looking for does not look totally alien to me, and I can't tell if that means I heard it once on WUMB when I was like six or whether you've sung it or whether it just looks like the folk tradition. I'd ask [personal profile] nineweaving.
