choco_froshSo this next week is going to be very interesting!
I mean, it was going to be interesting anyway. At work, our VP&Director, my immediate supervisor, and our...effectively CTO, even though that's not her title...are all going to be on vacation from my department, even as we all grapple with a Massive Proposal Deadline, a sudden spate of new projects from the NSF, the fact that we're moving to the other end of the building in a month, and the assortedfallout flow-down effects of all of this.
But that's just a small bit of what's gonna make it interesting for me.
Because, while I am officially in the office next week... I'm not actually gonna be in the office for more than about 60% of the time. And even when I am, my brain's not going to be.
Because next week is BellsCon! OK, technically that's "The Annual General Meeting of the North American Guild of Change Ringers", but let's face it, it's a whole bunch of people with the same somewhat obscure interest getting together for a long weekend to Do That Thing A Lot and hang out together.* ** So basically, a con.
(With a business meeting thrown in.)
So: Scheduling!
Wednesday: Got the tower more-or-less cleaned, the plexiglass back in the window, and the #8 rope spliced. (Didn't get much ringing in, tho.)
Today: try to concentrate on work
Go home, shower, eat a food.
Hang out withteenybuffalo and bake things.
Saturday (Aug. 17):
Bellspractice!
More tower cleaning! (ETA: Complete with bathroom. blech.)
Possibly softball?
Try to get some stuff done on cleaning the apartment before roommates get back.
Remember to go running.
Sunday (Aug. 18):
Church, ringing, possibly more ringing
Then try to get more $#!7 done? Oh, I should probably get flowers.
Monday (Aug. 19):
Somehow get out the door early so I can go to a medical appointment
Work: probably relatively normal, except for me showing up late. Well, and half the department being on holiday.
Go to running group. Or maybe handbells. Probably running, though.
Tuesday:
Something approaching normal.
Roommate #1 gets back from vacation!
"Oh hi, roommate #1! I got flowers to welcome you home and make up for the fact that your birthday presents are slowly wilting. Hope you had fun, sorry I'm running out the door, gotta go help feed homeless people."
Wednesday:
Ringers start arriving.
Possibly work remotely while hanging out at church waiting for a miniring to arrive?
Quit work early.
Hang out with handbell ringers.
Epic practice: three-ring circus of bells of different sizes, a zillion people packed into the anteroom chatting, more elsewhere ditto ditto.
Even more epic trip out for Thai food.
(Hopefully NOT epic last-minute fix-the-thing-what-broke.)
Thursday:
Go to work.
Try not to be jealous of everyone ringing on Cape Cod, sitting on beeches on Cape Cod, and then having dinner at a beach house on Cape Cod.
Roommate #2 gets home at some possibly ungodly hour.
Houseguest gets home at some probably ungodly hour.
Friday:
Work.
Leave early.
Get beer for picnic.
Ring.
Help set up for picnic.
Have picnic.
Probably get drunk at picnic.
Help clean up after picnic.
Saturday (Aug. 24):
Ring all day.
Annual General Meeting part of the Annual General Meeting.
Restrain urge to prolong AGM to 1972 length*** by asking about re-hanging plans/possible new towers.
Epic Italian food banquet.
Sunday (Aug 25):
Church
?Service Ringing? Though there are going to be six billion people there, so I may just play Auxiliary Church Liaison at successive coffee hours.
More ringing
Cleanup
Afterparty
Monday after it all ends:
Go to work;
cope with literal AND metaphorical hangover, and the problem of not having anything to look forward to.
* This year, someone's even giving a paper, thereby increasing the feeling that we're at a convention, or, hell, Kazoo.
Teeny pointed out that it also sounds rather like a Morris Ale, complete with people crashing on people's couches.
** And yes, before you ask, we have people who are coming directly here from WorldCon.
*** The NAGCR's inaugural AGM, generally treated as the starting point of the organization, ran like five hours and ended at one in the morning, because it they were trying to finalize a constitution and elect officers and figure out what they were doing: and so there were speeches and reports and explanations of reports and elections and initial organization of things and protracted discussion of/arguments about clauses in the Constitution / bylaws / random proposals; and also I suspect because no one was sufficiently in charge to keep the meeting on track.
