Thinking a lot about the famous (mis)quotation from MLK, "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter to us," that featured in last night's protest rally.
According to Snopes: "A man dies when he refuses to stand up for that which is right. A man dies when he refuses to stand up for justice. A man dies when he refuses to take a stand for that which is true. So we’re going to stand up amid horses. We’re going to stand up right here in Alabama, amid the billy-clubs. We’re going to stand up right here in Alabama amid police dogs, if they have them. We’re going to stand up amid tear gas! We’re going to stand up amid anything they can muster up, letting the world know that we are determined to be free!"

Hm. This is interesting to me as I coped with my fuckyouawful commute this morning, and thought to myself something along the lines of "it is so irritating to have to keep to my principles even when it sucks, or else they aren't really principles are they"?
I suppose it says something about our current times, and the dedication of activists, that I had to try to figure out *which* protest rally. I've mostly been following the three days of fasting and protesting in the MA state house sponsored by Movimiento Cosecha, trying to get a process for undocumented folks to have drivers' licenses. The hunger strikers are eating again, because the Transportation Committee has moved it forward favorably. I didn't participate except following along online and getting in touch with my rep. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/advocacy-group-optimistic-after-bill-to-allow-driver-e2-80-99s-licenses-for-undocumented-immigrants-advances/ar-BBZJl1s
