What with working from home, and trying to limit trips to the grocery store, I have not had occasion to drive my car in several weeks.

So it probably shouldn't have surprised me when I realized on Tuesday that the battery was dead.

Roommate M. was kind enough to assist me in jumpstarting it yesterday, and I drove it around the block a few times, and then, emboldened, for a couple of exits on Rte. 2. Initially, it was making some somewhat alarming noises, but by the end these had ceased; and it managed being turned off and on again once I got home with no problems.

This morning, the battery is dead again.

Now, HOPEFULLY this is just due to the fact that the battery wasn't remotely completely charged yesterday, and that last night was unseasonably cold (there were bits of ice in the puddles when I walked around the block this morning.) But since Khusrau went through innumerable electrical problems, I am naturally worrying that this is the Beginning Of The End for Bianca, as well.

But mostly, I am frustrated. I am tired of cars, tired of worrying about whether they're going to break, tired of rearranging my life to get them serviced; tired of owning a CO2-emitting, petroleum-drinking means of transportation that at the best of times is an unfortunate necessity, and these days is more of a superfluity.

[And also, why don't the goddamned things have a "Charge Battery" gear?]

Update, 7:15 PM: Well, I tried to jumpstart it, and it wouldn't jumpstart. So I think the starter is probably toast.

Well, this is going to be expensive and no fun.

How would that work?

You should get a trickle charger! Or, I could ship you ours, I think.
