7:35: Well, I guess that answers the question of “Are we going to lose power today?”

Now we have the new and exciting question,”when do we get it back?”

8:35: Apparently the answer is, NOW!
And so now the question becomes, "but for how long?"

*****

9:45 pm: As it turned out, the answer was "the rest of the day, anyway." We had an anxious hour, after E. got up and realized that the candle on the counter wasn't just there randomly: we were both worried that we might be without power - and hence also without heat - for the rest of the day, so we spent some time strategizing and rigging up draft excluders on the bottoms of doors. Unnecessarily, as it turned out; but what if it hadn't been?

We spent the day taking turns shoveling. Possibly ALSO unnecessarily, since the winds meant that anything we shoveled out, at least in the morning, got mostly refilled by drifting snow. E. graded papers and made brownies. I put in a half an hour's work, packed a couple more boxes for next weekend's move, made yet another round of corrections to The Clapper, and faffed about.

The snow has now MOSTLY stopped. I mean, it's still snowing, but not very hard. I think we got about 14", though it's hard to tell with it drifting as much as it is; in any case a far cry from the two feet people were worried about (and that other parts of NE may have gotten, for all I know.)

"...dealing with an unbelievable amount of snow!" said the neighbor whom I helped to get her car out of the driveway this afternoon.
"Were you here in 2015?" I asked.
"Oh yeah, and..."
"So it's not unbelievable. It's just a lot."

OTOH, it's really cold out there. wow. --Guy who went for a walk at 9:30 pm.

Over here, we've had Storm Malik overnight, which is still blowing away if more quietly; some roads are blocked, some houses have lost power (but not us), but our garden table has been wrecked.
