Feb. 1st, 2017 09:42 pmApparently my raise FINALLY came through. My financial situation is still pretty parlous, though.

Meanwhile, the inevitable has finally happened, and I have found ways to combine my obsessions with doing graphic art and bellringing. So spent waaaayy too much of the last couple of nights designing a bell tower, to be built after I inherit $20 million and a place in the country (ha!), and part of tonight trying to work out if any of the bells ever ring the same sequence in something called Dewsbury...which I had worked out from first principles while on my lunch break, and then sent to one of my instructors with a note to ask Does this work and What is it, anyway?
She said that she'd never rung it, but it actually looked kinda kinda pretty, and she might make everyone else learn it.
Weather: 1" snow, much of which has now melted.

That's really cool!
Why Dewsbury?

Date: 2017-02-02 12:18 pm (UTC)The name: I dunno, other than that if you create (and successfully perform) a new method, you get to name it, and most are named after places (although there are plenty of exceptions: there's one called Percy's Tea Strainer, for example.)
Why that method? It's just what I managed to construct while trying to work out *a* treble-bob method from first principles, and apparently that's what this one is called.
...I should probably explain treble bob. Despite the fact that I barely know myself.

Date: 2017-02-02 07:44 pm (UTC)Why the name: it sounded like a place-name, so I was wondering what made it significant or appropriate.
(although there are plenty of exceptions: there's one called Percy's Tea Strainer, for example.)
That's pretty great. Was it actually invented by anyone named Percy or does it just resemble the the kind of tea strainer someone named Percy would have?

Give it a try!
