GOOD: I wanted bread, and it turns out that we have a bread machine, and it turns out that the bread machine has a Delay function, so there was fresh-baked bread in the morning, without me needing to think about it, or knead anything, or get up at ass o'clock AM.

BAD: The bread machine was in the kitchen. The kitchen is right under roommate E's bedroom. E. is by far the lightest sleeper of the three of us.
The bread machine, in accordance with my orders, dumped the yeast into the bread dough mixture at like 3 AM.

Meantime, I am REALLY not motivated today. I mean, not that anything earth-shatteringly important is on my plate at work today, but I still just don't want to work on back-burner projects today.

Weather: Cold and drizzly. Went running anyway. Very briefly.

- There was indeed much swearing. Not, oddly enough, in the kneading process, nor in rolling out the extra-sticky first batch: it was the later batches that stuck to the board, the rolling pin, or both...

- They don’t seem spicy enough. Good Lebkuchen, when fresh out of the oven, should really attack you, and then mellow over a couple of weeks. These didn’t feel spicy enough even for the mellowed version. Next time, maybe 4 t. mulling spice (if avail), a full 1/8 each Cardamom and pepper, 1/4 t Grain of Paradise(before grinding), and all the other spices x 1.5.

- They seemed to get too brown. Next time I'm gonna try 325, for fifteen minutes, then flip.

- Welserin (1553) suggests flouring the pans, rather than greasing. That might actually help.

Saturday (morning, far too early): Drove down to Manchester for child impact seminar. Drove back, passing Old Orchard Beach.

Saturday (evening, late): [profile] maweisse and husband are visiting OOB. They drive up to Portland for drinks. Fun evening, although given that I should be writing my conference paper and doing job applications, this means Social Life is kicking Common Sense's arse again.

Sunday: Skived off on evening service in favor of driving down to Boston for Tea chez [personal profile] sigerson. I made them a Man-Portable Fusion Pie. Saw many people, notably Sovay, whom I have not seen in far too long. Put up for the night by the ever-awesome T. Edwards.
The NH-Maine section of I-95 is getting very familiar...

Today: Have lunch with Grandparents, drive home.

Wednesday (hopefully) or tomorrow (if not: eep!) Drive all the way to #$%& Kalamazoo. Hopefully I can find someone to carpool with in the next 24 hours...while also dealing with oDesk jobs, AND throwing a 12-page conference paper together!

Addendum: Riiiggght, I really DO need to find someone to carpool with. I am not actually capable of driving for sixteen straight hours. (Heck, I'm not sure I'm capable of driving for six.)

Got up late. Spent much of the rest of the day baking,* then went out for game nite this evening.**
So much for getting another module done this week...

* Bread, and some early hot cross buns.
**Played Give Me The Brain for the first time in about a decade, and NEARLY won some cooperative game where you're trying to retrieve treasure before the island sinks into the depths)
